System Description
Fuel is fed via one of the 40 litre fuel tanks to the low pressure pump adjacent to that tank. This pump then feeds the swirl pot via a non-return valve. The outlet from the base of the swirl pot is fed into a 100 micron filter and then on to the high pressure pump. From the pump the fuel flows through a 10 micron filter and then on to the fuel rails. From the fuel rails the the fuel is fed into the regulator which maintains the system fuel pressure of 44psi (base pressure). The returning fuel from the regulator is fed back to the swirl pot and then from there to the tank from which it came.
Regulator
The regulator is of the rising rate bypass type. As the boost pressure increases the fuel pressure rises on a 1:1 ratio with reference to boost.
e.g. If the boost pressure is 5psi then the fuel pressure will rise 5psi from base pressure i.e 44psi base plus 5psi boost. Fuel pressure at 5psi boost will be 49psi.
