DYNO OPEN DAY

A new dyno has opened on the Wirral. The company name is Dyno Demon. They had two open days over the August bank holiday. I went on the Saturday to view the cars on the dyno and put my car on the dyno on the Monday open day.

A couple of my Ultima mates came along in there cars to see my car on the dyno.

We had a few problems getting the car on due to the very low ground clearance. But once on the car performed very well with no problems at all. The car had only been mapped to 300bhp at the wheels so the fuel and ignition had not been optimised further up the rev range.

Here are a few pics of the car on the dyno. I removed the rear clip to make it easier to strap the car down.

I was a little dissapointed with the results but all ran well with the car. And there is plenty more power to come. As you can see in the pic below the car made 478.7bhp at the flywheel and it hit 11.3psi boost at 6000rpm. It made over 420lbs of torque from 2500rpm and hit a peak of aound 480lbs at 4500rpm. The 50lb injectors were at full duty cycle. With more fuel and ignition advance it would have made over 500bhp.

I had the car booked in at Dyno Demon on the 15th Sept to finish of the mapping, but on the friday before things were not going to well. After the dyno open day I decided to replace the 50lb injectors for the 65lb injectors. Replacing them was all straight forward. The 65lb injectors are low impedance which meant that I had to wire in my auxiliary injector driver unit to drive them. I had already fitted the driver unit in the electronics panel so I just had the wire it in. I also had to make a new loom for the injectors as the driver unit has two plugs coming from it instead of one which the ECU has. The car started ok on the new injectors. It only needed some fuel pulling out of the map. I was having a few problems coming off idle and the idle was not as good as before. I took the car to my local dyno to do some mapping before the main dyno session at Dyno Demon the next day. The car was mapping ok but then cut out. The car had gone lean just before it cut out. When we tried to start it the fuel pressure was only at 36psi instead of 45psi. Maybe the regulator had caused the engine to cut out. The car refused to start. We had a spark and the compression was fine, the pulses were getting to the injectors but the plugs were not getting wet. We tried for some time to start the car but with no luck. I trailered the car home and phoned Julian at Dyno Demon to cancel the mapping session. The next day I got the car started so I don't know what caused the fault. The regulator is being replaced.

I've had a few problems getting the car to run well with the new injectors but all the problems have noe been solved.

UP THE BOOST

I have now decided to up the boost before taking the car for its next dyno session. I have ordered two more pulleys one at 3.85 inch which should give around 14.5psi ( 1 bar ) and the other at 3.4 inch which should give around 18psi ( 1.2 bar ).

I will fit the 3.85 inch pulley before the remap.

As you can see in the pics the car is now fitted with its full windscreen.
