NEW FUEL PUMPS

Now that the running problem with the engine is sorted I am going to get on with some other jobs. The first of which is to fit the new low pressure fuel pumps. There is one attached to each of the 40 litre fuel tanks. I was not happy with the old pumps, one leaked from new and they are just too loud. You can here them over the engine noise.

Here is a pic of the new pumps.

As you can see they are Holley HP 125 pumps (125 gallons per hour). The pumps are internally regulated to 7psi. To make the job of fitting them easier I am going to remove the exhausts. The pump panels I made will have to be removed to I can drill them for the new mountings. New fittings may have to be purchased to get them plumbed in. I will also be taking the inlet manifold off as I have a small oil leak from it. The new water pump will be fitted while I have the inlet manifold off. I will have to drain the cooling system to do these two jobs.

WATER PUMP

The pic below shows the new water pump fitted with a 5 inch inlet adapter. I'm glad I bought the 3 and 5 inch adapter as the 3 inch one proved too short.

The pic below shows the new pump fitted. The pic also shows that the inlet manifold has been removed.

The pic below shows a view from the side. Clearance worked out fine. A shorter belt now had to be found just to drive the alternator from the crank pulley. An 800mm belt fitted ok.

HEATER RETURN

Due to the new pump having no heater pipe inlet I had to work out a new solution.

The pic below shows the pipe that returns water to the pump. I bought a weld adapter to allow the heater return to run into it.

The pic below shows the adapter in position ready for welding.

The pic below shows the finished article welded and ready to be fitted to the car.

The pic below shows the pipe fitted to the car with a 45°elbow adapter in place.

OTHER STUFF

The pic below shows the main fuel pump panel which required a lot of cleaning due to the all the bits that had come from the shreaded supercharger belt. I will collect two new belts on friday.

The inlet manifold has been re-fitted now along with the fuel injection system. The two new fuel pumps have been fitted and just require the wiring to be altered as they draw more current than the other ones. Fused relays are going to be fitted to be on the safe side. I will also be finishing the wiring to the Pollak valve. I am aslo going to be fitting a thermostatic switch in the cooling system that will control the new electric water pump after engine shut down. I timmer relay will be fitted into that circuit to allow the pump to run on for a set amount of time. The relay is adjustable from 1 second to 10 minutes.

More updates soon!
